Get Involved
Birkenhead Museum is cared for by a passionate group of local volunteers who share a love for preserving the history of Birkenhead and the surrounding communities of Northcote Point, Birkdale, Beach Haven and Glenfield. There are many ways you can support the museum, whether by volunteering your time, becoming a member, donating items, or contributing financially.
Every contribution helps us continue to preserve local stories and keep the museum open for the community.
Volunteer
We are a dedicated group of volunteers passionate about preserving our area’s unique history and heritage, and we always welcome new people who are keen to help make a difference in our community.
Volunteers help in many ways: welcoming visitors, sharing local stories, assisting with displays, cataloguing artifacts, and helping with events and talks.
If you enjoy local history or simply want to contribute to the community, we would love to hear from you.

Share a Story or Donate an Item
Do you have photographs, documents, or objects connected with Birkenhead or Northcote’s history?
We are always interested in hearing from members of the community who may have items or stories to share. From family photographs and local business memorabilia to everyday objects that reflect life in earlier times, these contributions help enrich the stories we share with visitors.
As the museum is housed in a small historic villa, we carefully consider donations to ensure they are appropriate for the character and scale of the museum.
If you have something you would like us to consider, please contact us at info@birkenheadmuseum.org.nz
